You know how sometimes fusion restaurants feel like they just threw random ingredients together and hoped for the best? Yeah, Mirra is the exact opposite. This place, launched in July 2024 by chefs Rishi Kumar and Zubair Mohijar, along with bartender David Mor, blends South Asian and Mexican flavors in a way that actually makes sense. It’s like your favorite comfort foods went on vacation together, discovered new spices, and came back refreshed.

The Atmosphere: Laid-Back Meets Lively

Mirra’s space has been reimagined into something bright, welcoming, and full of energy. The mix of bar seating, high-top tables, and cozy booths makes it easy to settle in, whether you’re here for a casual bite or a full evening out. The colors pop, the lighting is warm, and the vibe says, “Stay awhile.”

Service: Attentive, Maybe a Little Too Much

Good service is a gift, but walking into Mirra felt like stepping into a hospitality relay race. Within minutes, there was a water pour, a host check-in, and a server greeting—all before we even had a chance to unfold the napkins. It’s lovely to feel welcomed, but a little breathing room goes a long way.

Once things settled, our server was knowledgeable and helpful, though there was a moment of hesitation when we opted for small plates over full entrées. A subtle, “That’s all?” with just a touch of skepticism. Spoiler: it was plenty. So if you find yourself in the same situation, stick to your plan—your appetite knows best.

The Food: Bold, Balanced, and Beautifully Spiced

Meze Plate

A standout starter. Instead of the usual basket of tortilla chips, Mirra pairs its salsas and dips with papadam and a crispy, charred cracker—both light, crisp, and full of flavor. The pumpkin seed sauce, guacamole, and roasted tomato salsa each had their own moment to shine, especially the salsa, which tasted like it had been kissed by fire.

Lamb Tacos

Rich, tender, and deeply seasoned, these tacos delivered all the warmth and spice without any gaminess. The flour tortilla was soft, the sauce had just the right amount of heat, and every bite was balanced. No unnecessary frills—just well-executed flavors.

Soft-Shell Crab

A pleasant surprise. Soft-shell crab can be tricky, but this one was crisp on the outside, delicate on the inside, and seasoned with a subtle heat that enhanced the dish without overpowering it. The texture, the spice, the execution—it all just worked.

Final Thoughts: A Strong Start with a Few Tweaks Needed

Mirra is off to an exciting start. The enthusiasm in the service is appreciated, but a little more ease would go a long way. The food? Thoughtful, flavorful, and full of bold choices that pay off. With a little more balance in the pacing, this could easily become a favorite. And yes, those tacos will be calling me back.
